Millions of people experience undiagnosed conditions that impact their health. In the US, 3.7M women suffer from abdominal pain due to undiagnosed fibroids1. 76% of NASH/NAFLD cases go unnoticed until they reach advanced stages2. Up to 57% of inflammatory bowel disease cases—raising colon cancer risk by 4.5x—remain undiagnosed3. Women with endometriosis, a leading cause of infertility, face an average 6-11 year delay in diagnosis4. Whole-body MRI helps detect these hidden conditions early, providing clarity and faster answers.

Aneurysm findings

The Prenuvo scan can identify and monitor the presence of aneurysms. One of our studies found suspected intracranial aneurysms (IAs) in 2% of our patients.

A visual catalyst to inspire patients to make real changes

Our advanced screening covers 33 organs across all major body systems—from reproductive to digestive and metabolic health. It provides specialist-level insights to primary care providers, empowering patients and doctors to take proactive steps, implement interventions, and track health progress over time.

What we can identify with Whole Body MRI

Multiple Sclerosis

This case illustrates the pivotal role of whole body MRI (WB-MRI) in helping to identify a life changing diagnosis. Early detection allowed for prompt treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), addressing her symptoms, and preventing further complications.

Graves' Disease

This case highlights the value of whole body MRI (WB-MRI) in identifying subtle but clinically significant changes in endocrine disorders, helping to improve diagnostic accuracy, and supporting proactive care.

Hepatic Steatosis (Fatty Liver Disease)

This case illustrates the pivotal role of whole body MRI (WB-MRI) in helping to identify early disease processes, guiding personalized care, and improving long-term health outcomes.

Colon Cancer with Lymph Node & Liver Metastases

A 72-year-old man’s pre-trip WB-MRI revealed liver-limited colorectal cancer spread, prompting urgent oncology referral for potential life-extending treatment.

Endometriosis

This case highlights endometriosis, a common yet often delayed diagnosis, where WB-MRI can aid early detection—especially in atypical or extra-pelvic cases.

Renal Cell

This case study focuses on how proactive whole body MRI (WB-MRI) screening can improve health outcomes for patients with cancer, particularly for cancers that lack standard screening tests, such as renal cell carcinoma.

Provider FAQs

Do you review a patient’s medical history prior to a scan?

Prior to a scan, we instruct patients to fill out a medical intake form and highly encourage full medical history disclosures, as well as the submission of any previous radiology reports or laboratory information. A comprehensive health history gives our radiologists the best ability to correlate and interpret findings.

Do you review any prior patient imaging from previous scans?

As mentioned above, our radiologists will use any previous reports or laboratory details added into a patient's medical intake form. At this time, outside image upload / direct comparison is unavailable.

Is the WB-MRI scan covered by insurance?

At this time, insurance companies do not reimburse for WB-MRI’s for most patients and as a result Prenuvo does not currently contract with any health insurance providers. We hope to work with them to improve coverage in the future. We do accept HSA/FSA payments and offer financing options through Affirm.

How does Prenuvo determine who would benefit from a WB-MRI?

We believe that every adult should have access to a “virtual physical” with a whole body MRI. To ensure that the screening is appropriate and delivers meaningful results, we assess each patient based on the reason they provide for getting a scan, along with key elements from their medical history. For example, if a patient has undiagnosed knee pain, we inform them before booking that while our test may not provide a specific diagnosis, it can indicate areas of inflammation and suggest a follow-up with a healthcare provider for further care. Additionally, we may identify a pattern of inflammation that suggests the knee pain could be part of a broader systemic issue.

How accurate is WB-MRI at diagnosing medical conditions?

Whole-body MRI is a highly sensitive imaging modality that provides detailed, high-resolution visualization of organs and soft tissues without ionizing radiation. Prenuvo’s data from the POLARIS study in a screening population demonstrated a 99.8% negative predictive value for whole-body MRI, underscoring its effectiveness in ruling out significant findings when the scan is negative.

Accuracy of Whole-Body MRI in Diagnosing Medical Conditions

Cancer Detection:

  • Whole-body MRI is particularly effective in helping detect early-stage cancers, including prostate, kidney, liver, pancreatic, ovarian, and brain tumors, among others.[3][5]
  • It has high sensitivity to help detect solid tumors, often identifying cancers at an earlier stage than conventional imaging.[3][8][9]

Aneurysms & Vascular Findings:

  • MRI and MR angiography (MRA) can identify aneurysms, vascular malformations, and arterial stenoses that might otherwise remain silent until they cause life-threatening events.[10][12]
  • Sensitivity is high for larger aneurysms, though smaller or atypical lesions may require additional testing for confirmation.[11]

Neurological Conditions:

  • MRI is the gold standard for detecting structural brain abnormalities, including early signs of stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, and neurodegenerative conditions.[13]
  • Functional and diffusion-weighted imaging enhance the detection of subtle changes in brain tissue integrity.[14][15]

Metabolic Conditions:

  • MRI can help assess fat distribution, liver health (e.g., fatty liver), and other metabolic markers that indicate disease risk.[16]

By integrating whole-body MRI into a screening program, providers can leverage its high sensitivity and the excellent negative predictive value shown by the POLARIS study (99.8%) to help detect or rule out many serious conditions early—often when they are most treatable.
